Welcome to my psychotherapy practice. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 38 years of experience working with people to make their lives better. In addition to my clinical training, I bring my down-to-earth Midwestern style, sense of humor, philosophical and practical approach, and love of helpful metaphors to my work with clients.
Although my training and experience have prepared me to treat a broad array of mental health issues, people referred into my practice are most often dealing with concerns around parenting, grief and loss, relationship issues, separation and divorce, medical illness, pregnancy/birth and postpartum issues, family crisis, anxiety and depression, and both ordinary and extraordinary stress. I work with anyone over age 14 and use individual and family therapy modalities. I also provide supervision and peer consultation, personal and business coaching, and routinely speak to community groups. I love helping people find solutions to difficult life problems.
Because I take a wholistic approach to evaluating a particular problem, my assessments take into account contextual factors such as personal physiology, family dynamics, environment, and lifestyle. I work closely and collaboratively with other involved professionals to ensure my clients receive the best treatment possible. My approaches to treatment will vary based on the needs of the client.
Virginia Commonwealth University (VA) - MSW 1991

I am committed to professional excellence and regularly participate in workshops, seminars, classes and other opportunities to advance my clinical skills and stay current with research and other advances in the field of mental health. I am a member of the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work, the Clinical Social Work Association, and hold a Board Certified Diplomate in Social Work through the American Board of Clinical Social Work.
I have worked in the mental health field since 1986 and have maintained a private practice since 1994. Previous experience includes over ten years in community mental health where I worked in emergency services and residential treatment settings, provided case management to people with severe mental illness, and engaged in community outreach. I provided after-hours psychiatric evaluations for the INOVA health system, worked on the inpatient psychiatric unit of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and provided outpatient individual and group psychotherapy at the Northern Virginia Women's Center.
I am the parent of grown children, have been married for over 30 years, and wrestle daily with the challenge to live joyfully within the limitations of a 24-hour day.
I provide counseling and consultation services in person at my office and via telehealth to people who live in Virginia, DC, Connecticut and Florida. Please call to determine my availability or to request an appointment. I am an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies, including Medicare.
